About Us
Robey Packaging Equipment & Service, Inc started and has been based in the Chicagoland area since 1986 and has been providing customers with dependable custom bag fillers all over the world since then.
History
​
Our founder, Rich Robey, began working as a young man at Black Products Company, in 1966. Prior to that time, Black Products Company had started using bagger to fill their bags of ground coal and graphite materials with the brand name of Black Diamond. Once they saw what improvements could be made to build a better bagger, Black Products later added Black Diamond bagging division in the 1950s and then began selling their own line of bag filling machines and equipment.

Rich began as a draftsman but soon became involved in every aspect of the bagging division at Black Products, from working in the test and design room to going on service calls and building relationships with customers. After many years and thousands of machines sold, Black Diamond was bought out by a competitor in the mid 1980s, who discontinued the Black Diamond machines. This buy-out left Black Diamond's customers looking for parts, service, and machines which were no longer offered.

Through his relationships with the customers, Rich began receiving calls at home from people asking if he could supply the parts for the Black Diamond machines. Luckily, the original machine shop, General Machine, who built the parts for Black Diamond, was still operating and they owned all of the fixtures to build the parts. Rich contacted General Machine and then began the process of founding Robey Packaging Equipment & Service, Inc to offer parts, machines, and service to the customers.

Soon after opening, Rich acquired General Machine, which then began fabricating all of the parts for Robey Packaging bag filling equipment. The collaboration between Robey Packaging Equipment and Service, Inc and RPE General Machine Company allows us to build and test our own new designs as we look for the best solutions for our customers and to supply replacement parts for bag filling machines and supporting equipment.

Rich operated Robey Packaging Equipment and Service for over 30 years before recently retiring. As a family owned and operated company, John Robey and Mike Robey, as well as other family members and employees, who have been with the company for over 20 years, now run Robey Packaging Equipment with Rich still consulting.
Design and Innovation

Throughout the years the basic design of the Air Flow, Pressure Flow, and Auger Baggers have held true to that of the Black Diamond machines.

Robey Packaging still offers the basic rugged and dependable machines using scale points and beam scales all the way up to machines in fully automated systems. But we have added new options, attachments, and improvements such as electronic scales, inflate tubes, two-speed filling, intrinsically safe models to be used in hazardous environments, open mouth bag attachments, and more. Robey Packaging specializes in designing custom applications to meet your company's needs.

We pride ourselves in working with our customers to offer innovative solutions to filling materials in situations where they were told it wouldn't work. Through our knowledge and skill we create custom augers, fill spouts, chambers, machine heights, and more to supply the best machines possible.
